Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau scored on a rare playoff penalty shot to put his team up 2–0 over the Dallas Stars during the third period of Game 4.
The referees in Dallas awarded Gaudreau a penalty shot after he was hooked on a breakaway at the 7:47 mark of the final frame.
The 28-year-old winger swung wide to the left before cutting back to the middle and sliding a backhand shot through the wickets of Stars goaltender @Jake Oettinger.
Gaudreau’s ninth career playoff goal gave the Flames their first multi-goal lead of the series against Dallas. The Flames currently trail the Stars 1–0 in the Western Conference quarterfinal.
The Flames have taken three playoff penalty shots in franchise history, scoring on two:
  1. Al MacInnis: Game 1 vs. LAK in 1990 (Goal)
  2. Johnny Gaudreau: Game 5 vs. COL in 2019 (Miss)
  3. Johnny Gaudreau: Game 4 vs. DAL in 2022 (Goal)
After goals by @Elias Lindholm and @Tyler Seguin, the Flames currently lead the Stars 3–1 in the final five minutes of regulation in Game 4. Calgary is looking to tie the series and end its eight-game losing streak when trailing in the playoffs.
