Calgary Flames forward @Andrew Mangiapane is off to an incredible start to the 2021–22 season.
The 25-year-old winger scored two goals in Tuesday’s game against the New Jersey Devils, catapulting him over the likes of @Connor McDavid, @Anze Kopitar, and @Kyle Connor to move into a tie for the NHL’s goal-scoring lead.
Mangiapane, @Elias Lindholm, and @Alex Ovechkin are all currently tied for first place with seven goals. Lindholm scored once in Tuesday’s game to keep pace with Mangiapane.
Prior to Ovechkin’s two-goal performance on Monday, Lindholm ranked in a tie for first in the league with six goals. This is Mangiapane’s first time leading the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy race this season.
Here’s the video footage of Mangiapane’s two goals from Tuesday’s game, as posted by the Flames’ official Twitter account:
Curiously, Mangiapane has yet to record a single assist this year despite leading his team (and the league) in goals.
The Flames won Tuesday’s game in New Jersey by a 5-3 score, improving to 4-1-1 on the season. Mangiapane scored twice; Lindholm, @Milan Lucic, and @Matthew Tkachuk added goals for Calgary. Goaltender @Dan Vladar stopped 27 of 30 shots for his second win as a Flame.
