The Calgary Flames may be losing another key player via free agency. Per a tweet from Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, Flames winger Tyler Toffoli doesn’t plan on re-signing with the club when his contract expires. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman is also reporting that Toffoli has been placed on the trade block.
Toffoli joined the Flames via a trade with the Montreal Canadiens on Valentine’s Day 2022 as the club loaded up for a playoff run. He’s spent parts of two seasons with the club and emerged as a very reliable offensive player, playing top six minutes and factoring into both sides of their special teams. In 119 games with the Flames, Toffoli has 45 goals and 96 points.
Toffoli’s contract carries a $4.25 million cap hit and expires on July 1, 2024, and he’s slated to become an unrestricted free agent. He’s one of seven Flames players slated to become UFAs in the summer of 2024 – along with Mikael Backlund, Elias Lindholm, Noah Hanifin, Chris Tanev, Nikita Zadorov and Oliver Kylington. Suffice it to say, newly-minted general manager Craig Conroy has a few challenges to juggle as he navigates his first off-season.
We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
