The Calgary Flames have not won the 2021 NHL draft lottery.
NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly announced Wednesday afternoon the Flames will select 12th overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
The Flames entered the lottery with 2.2% odds to move up to the first overall slot and a 2.4% chance of selecting second.
With the Seattle Kraken receiving the second overall selection, the Flames remain one of only two active NHL teams to have never picked in the top three. The Vegas Golden Knights, established in 2017, are the other.
The Flames have selected 12th overall once before in club history. In 1984, then-general manager Cliff Fletcher picked winger Gary Roberts at that spot; Roberts went on to win a Stanley Cup with Calgary in 1989 and scored 53 goals with the team in 1991–92.
The Buffalo Sabres will pick first overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
