2022 has come and gone and my goodness was it an eventful year for the Calgary Flames. It is incredible what has happened to this franchise in just 365 days. They had two players surpass 100 points since the 1990-91 season. Three 40 goal scorers since 1993-94. Won their second playoff round since the ’04 run. Played in a Battle of Alberta for the first time since 1991. Lost their two franchise players in Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk. Replaced them with Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri.
All that happened in one calendar year. Crazy.
The Flames also scored a lot of goals in 2022. 313 (plus the goals they score tonight against the Canucks) to be exact which is fifth in the NHL in that time.
There were a lot of nice goals scored in 2022. It was a difficult task narrowing it down to just ten. I had wrote down 27 goals that were worthy of being considered for this list.
Let’s see which ones cracked my top 10.

10. Apr. 6: Michael Stone slap shot goal against the Ducks

One of the lost art forms in the NHL today is the slap shot. It is becoming less prevalent in today’s game. However, that is not the case for Stone who has one of, if not the hardest slap shot in the game today. He shows that off with this bomb.

9. Jan. 18:. Matthew Tkachuk tip against the Florida Panthers

This is one of the most unique goals you will see in the NHL. Tkachuk going full speed towards the net hits the puck out of mid air, behind him and scores. This was an incredible display of hand eye coordination and skill from one of the best offensive players in the NHL.

8. Apr. 2: Johnny Gaudreau breakaway snipe

One of the most disappointing things about losing Gaudreau last off-season was that he finally developed a lethal shot. His shot went from being a weakness to a big-time strength in his game. This is one of his many breakaway goals from last season.

7. Feb. 16: Elias Lindholm passes the puck to himself and scores

It’s not everyday you see a player score a goal and get the first assist on it. Lindholm does exactly that in this beauty against the Anaheim Ducks.

6. April 18: Johnny Gaudreau does a couple laps around the Chicago zone and scores

Johnny Gaudreau does a couple laps around the Chicago Blackhawks. Drinks a cup of coffee. Reads the newspaper. And then goes in and snipes a goal. What an effort from the former Flame.

5. Oct. 15: Nazem Kadri’s first as a Flame

Not only is this a beautiful individual effort by Kadri, but it is also represents a new chapter of Calgary Flames hockey. We hope to see a lot more goals like this over the next seven seasons.

4. Feb. 1: Swedish connection

This was one of the most fun goals from 2022. The Flames were down 3-1 late in the third period against the Stars. They scored three goals in 3:27, the last being this beauty by the three Swede’s Lindholm, Andersson, and Kylington.

3. May 11: PING

This is one of the more memorable goals in modern Flames history. Andrew Mangiapane turns around the series for the Flames by giving them a one goal lead in the third period of Game 5 against the Dallas Stars with an absolute snipe off the post and in. The Flames had nothing going in this game. It took Mikael Backlund and Mangiapane to put the Flames on their backs and lead them to victory.

2. Feb. 15: Tyler Toffoli’s first as a Flame

Toffoli was acquired by the Flames on Valentine’s Day 2022. Fans were incredibly excited to have a player of Toffoli’s calibre join the team. He did not disappoint in his first game with the club scoring this beauty. What a flip by Gaudreau on this one.

1. May 15: Game 7 winner

There is no other logical choice to have at the number one spot on this list. Gaudreau’s Game 7 winner against the Stars will go down as one of the most iconic goals in Calgary Flames history.
