WATCH: Coronato roofs shorthanded goal 1:10 into first game with Harvard

Calgary Flames prospect Matthew Coronato is off and running in the Ivy League.

The 18-year-old winger scored his first NCAA goal just 1:10 into his first game with the Harvard Crimson men’s ice hockey team.

With Harvard on the penalty kill early in the first period of its season-opening game against Dartmouth College, Coronato stole the puck from an attacker at his own blue line and broke in uncontested against goaltender Justin Ferguson.

Coronato roofed a wrister on Ferguson’s glove side to give Harvard a 1-0 lead. Here’s the video of the goal, as posted to Twitter by the official Harvard men’s hockey team account:

The Flames selected Coronato with the 13th-overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. He joined Harvard after a record-breaking USHL career with the Chicago Steel, with whom he scored a franchise record 66 goals in 96 games.

Coronato stands 5’10” and weighs 183 pounds. His Harvard team currently leads Dartmouth by a 2-0 score after one period of play, with Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Nick Abruzzesse also scoring in the first to extend the lead for the visitors.
