@Matthew Tkachuk and @Johnny Gaudreau connected on a beautiful goal for the Calgary Flames in the first period of Thursday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center.
With less than 10 minutes remaining in the opening frame, Tkachuk fired a pinpoint pass from the right hash marks in Calgary’s defensive zone up to a streaking Gaudreau approaching the Sabres’ blue line.
Gaudreau received the puck cleanly before entering Buffalo’s offensive zone. Despite Sabres defenceman @Colin Miller applying heavy pressure on Gaudreau from behind, the 28-year-old winger was able to roof the puck past goaltender @Dustin Tokarski.
@Chris Tanev picked up the secondary assist on Gaudreau’s fifth goal of the season, which came at the 10:30 mark of the first period.
Tkachuk now has 13 points (seven goals, six assists) in 17 games with the Flames in 2021–22. Gaudreau is up to five goals and 17 points in the same span.
Calgary leads Buffalo by a 1-0 score after 20 minutes of play. The Flames currently have 14 shots to Buffalo’s eight.
