<p>Digging into their underlying metrics, a few trends emerge.</p>

<h2><strong>Record when leading or trailing</strong></h2>
<p>The Flames have scored first 20 times this season and have a 13-4-3 record (.725 points percentage) when they open the scoring. They&#8217;re 4-7-3 (.392 ppct.) when the other team scores first.</p>
<p>They&#8217;re 12-3-1 when leading after one period (.781 ppct.) and 15-0-1 (.969 ppct.) when leading after two periods. When trailing after one period, they&#8217;re 0-5-3 (.188 ppct). When trailing after two periods, they&#8217;re 0-8-1 (.0.56 ppct.).</p>
<p>Put slightly differently, they have a .417 points percentage when <em>not </em>leading after one period and a .250 points percentage when not leading after two periods. This means that if you hit the intermission and the Flames aren&#8217;t up, history suggests they&#8217;re not going to come back to win.</p>
