The Calgary Flames headed down to Edmonton for Game 3 of their second round playoff series with the Oilers on Sunday night. It went poorly, with the Flames getting out-shot handily in the first period, giving up four goals in the second period, and generally chasing for the entire game. The Flames ended up losing 4-1, with the Oilers taking a 2-1 lead in the series.

Head coach Darryl Sutter
#Flames head coach Darryl Sutter shares his thoughts on Game 3.
On how the game unfolded: “I think we had a lot of the younger guys that haven’t been in this situation before were a little bit intimidated by the atmosphere.”
On Edmonton’s early push: “You knew what was coming. They haven’t played at home in this round yet and they were going to come out hard and really play with a lot of purpose in their game, and a lot of speed, and they did. And I thought Marky in the first period probably made 3, 4 saves that would’ve kept it a no-score. But I just think, give Edmonton credit, the way they played in neutral, it fed 97’s game for sure.”
On the Milan Lucic hit on Mike Smith: “They called it charging, correct? Can you imagine if Looch did charge? What would’ve happened there? He actually tried to slow it down a little, i think. It is what it is. It’s the score and who it was. That’s what they call.”
On the decision to pull Jacob Markstrom from the game: “Just after two periods. I could’ve done it with seven minutes left in the second but I didn’t think that was right, since it wouldn’t give Vladdy time to warm up between periods.”
On what he says to Markstrom in that situation: “Yeah, ‘Marky, Vladdy’s going in.'”

On hanging Jacob Markstrom out to dry: “Absolutely. I mean, odd-man rushes and… What were they, four odd-man rushes? I thought he was awesome tonight, Marky. He made so many great saves and kept us in it in the first and we just didn’t play that great in front of him in the second.”
On what they need to do to have success: “They’ve got one player that plays half the game and is playing some great hockey right now, and we gotta find a way to stop that. When we get into their zone, we have to hold pucks and nothing blind, and get shots to the goalie. That’s where they can have some trouble with some rebounds and lose coverage with that. Just have to have consistent O-zone shifts and not throw anything blind that can feed their transition.”
