The Calgary Flames have quite a few prospects playing in Russia.
Since the 2018 draft, the Flames have drafted at least one Russian in all but one draft, the 2022 draft when they had just three picks. Since 2020, they have drafted four Russian netminders, Daniil Chechelev in 2020, Arsenii Sergeev in 2021, Yegor Yegorov in 2023, and Kirill Zarubin in 2024.
In this prospect check in, we’ll take a look at Yegorov, who is playing his fourth season in Russia’s junior league. In 2022-23, he played with Moscow Dynamo’s junior team, posting a .915 save percentage and 2.29 goals against average in 15 games. This led the Flames to select him with their sixth-round pick in 2023.
The following season saw Yegorov play 25 games with Dynamo Jr., where he improved to a .917 save percentage, despite finishing with a higher goals against average of 2.46. Yegorov was loaned to Krylya Sovetov Jr. (translated to Wings of Soviet in English) for the 2024-25 season, where his save percentage plummeted to .904, while his goals against average jumped to 3.14 in 20 games. The 2024-25 season also saw Yegorov make his professional debut, playing four games with Tambov HC, posting an .870 save percentage and 3.38 goals against average.
There’s good news regarding his 2025-26 season though. Like last season, Yegorov is playing in the MHL’s Silver Division (second-tier), but has played a career-high 30 games, with his save percentage jumping back up to .922, while the goals against average has lowered to 2.78.
Throughout his junior career, Yegorov hasn’t had much of an opportunity to play in the playoffs, playing a total of just 13 and a half minutes back in the 2023 playoffs. His team, JHC Spartak MHA, have a chance of making the playoffs, as they sit four points out (with a game in hand) of the final spot in the Silver Division.
With 10 games remaining in the season, Yegorov is going to have to play at his best if he wishes to play post-season hockey this season, but it’s an encouraging step forward for the 20-year-old.
This will be Yegorov’s final season in Russia’s junior league (called the Molodezhnaya Hokkeinaya Liga), as all players have to be 20 years old or younger. Yegorov will turn 21 years old shortly before the start of next season, so expect his 2026-27 season to be spent in Russia’s version of the American Hockey League.
