Over the past few months, and especially nearing the recent trade deadline, the Calgary Flames have been making big trades and beginning to build a younger roster
Most of these trades consisted of very well-known players and Flames veterans including Nazem Kadri, MacKenzie Weegar and Rasmus Andersson, alongside prospects such as Jacob Battaglia and Jeremie Poirier. After being traded to another team, it can never be certain how a player will react. So, how are these former Flames doing on their new teams?

Nazem Kadri (Colorado Avalanche)

Nazem Kadri returned to the Colorado Avalanche just before the trade deadline on Mar. 6. Kadri knows the Avalanche, and their success all too well, as he won the Stanley Cup with the team in 2022.
In return, the Flames acquired Victor Olofsson from the Avalanche along with prospect Max Curran, a conditional 2027 second-round pick and a conditional 2028 first-round pick.
In his first seven games with the Avalanche, Kadri has recorded four points and an impressive ice time average. He is a familiar face on the ice, with over 20 minutes of ice time (20:54) in each game.
The Avalanche are currently sitting first in the NHL, putting Kadri in contention to win his second Stanley Cup with the team.

MacKenzie Weegar (Utah Mammoth)

MacKenzie Weegar was traded to the Utah Mammoth on Mar. 4, shocking both Flames fans and teammates.
“I absolutely loved it there. I was loyal. I wanted to bring a Cup there.” said Weegar in a recent interview with Sportsnet’s Eric Francis.
Through Saturday’s games, Weegar has racked up one point in his first eight games played with the Mammoth since his trade. Although his points may not be as high as expected, Weegar continues to be a force on the ice, spending more than 20 minutes (21:08) on the ice in almost every game.
In return for Weegar, the Flames acquired defenceman Olli Määttä, prospect Jonathan Castagna and three second-round picks in the 2026 NHL Draft.
The Mammoth are currently sitting in the first wild-card spot in the Pacific Division, which could allow Weegar to get another taste of the playoffs.

Rasmus Andersson (Vegas Golden Knights)

Rasmus Andersson was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Zach Whitecloud, prospect Abram Wiebe, a conditional 2027 first-round pick and a conditional 2028 second-round pick on Jan. 18.
In Andersson’s first 20 games with the Knights, he has racked up seven points and played an impressive over 20 minute (21:17) average of ice time in each game. His defensive skill filled a gap in the Golden Knights defence that was missing due to player injuries.
The Knights are currently sitting in the third-place spot in the Pacific Division, setting Andersson up for a probable playoff run and a strong potential of a Stanley Cup win.

Jacob Battaglia (New York Rangers)

Flames prospect Jacob Battaglia was traded to the New York Rangers on Mar. 6 in exchange for forward Brennan Othmann.
Battaglia was drafted by the Flames in 2024, 62nd overall in the second round. After the draft, he spent time playing in the Ontario Hockey League. Battaglia spent most of his time playing with the Kingston Frontenacs, serving as captain, before being traded to the Flint Firebirds. This season, Battaglia has racked up over 50 OHL games and 28 points. (Since his NHL contract was traded by Calgary to the Rangers, he has four assists in five games with Flint.)

Jeremie Poirier (Dallas Stars)

Flames prospect Jeremie Poirier was traded to the Dallas Stars on Feb. 2 in exchange for minor-league defender Gavin White.
Previously with the AHL’s Wranglers, Poirier joined the AHL’s Texas Stars. In his first nine games with Texas, he has eight points. (He has six points in 35 games with the Wranglers prior to the trade.)
