Call him “Johnny Playoff Hockey.”
Wearing both an “A” and the flaming “C” on his chest, Calgary Flames star @Johnny Gaudreau scored in overtime of Game 7 against the Dallas Stars to put his team into the second round of the playoffs.
After Stars goaltender @Jake Oettinger made an initial stop on @Elias Lindholm, Gaudreau picked up the puck in the corner and fired a shot that beat Oettinger over his shoulder to give the Flames a 3–2 overtime victory.
Gaudreau’s goal came on the Flames’ 67th shot of the game — a new franchise record in the playoffs. Lindholm and @Matthew Tkachuk picked up the helpers on Gaudreau’s second goal of the series.
The Flames have moved on to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2015, and will face the Edmonton Oilers in a playoff series for the first time since 1991.
Tkachuk and @Tyler Toffoli also scored for the Flames in their Game 7 victory. The Flames outshot the Stars 67–28; Dallas goaltender @Jake Oettinger concluded his astonishing playoff series with 64 saves in the final game.
Gaudreau led the Flames in scoring with eight points (two goals, six assists) in the first round. Game 1 against the Oilers will go at 7:30 p.m. MT on Wednesday at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
