With just six games left in the season, the Calgary Wranglers hit the road to face the Laval Rocket for Easter weekend. At this point in the year, the Wranglers are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs but still want to compete and enjoy their last stretch of games. Notes and expectations
There were a few roster moves for the Wranglers this week. The biggest news was Jonathan Castagna signing his ELC and joining the AHL squad on a PTO. He’ll wear number 34 for the Wranglers. Calgary also signed Axel Hurtig of the Calgary Hitmen to an ELC but the option to go to the Wranglers right now is not available, as he’s currently playing in playoffs and just qualified for the second round.
The Wranglers also called up Connor Murphy from the Rapid City Rush this week. Ivan Prosvetov didn’t dress for the Wranglers last game and PTO addition, Aaron Trotter backed up Arsenii Sergeev in their last game against the Colorado Eagles. The Rush’s season is still on but with the load Sergeev has had this season, it’s possible he needs a few games off or may be facing an injury that’s not worth pushing further.
On the other end of the ice, the Rocket will be without their captain and one of their top scorers this weekend. Alex Belzile is expecting the birth of a child any day and the team announced proactively that he would not be in either of these games this weekend. Martin Frk missed Calgary’s last game for the same reason and might not be available for these games either.
This series starts on Good Friday with a puck drop of 5:00 p.m. MT then continues on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. MT start time. Both games can be streamed for a fee on Flo Hockey and FlamesNation contributors Ryan Pike and I will have updates on X (formerly Twitter).
