Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving held court with local media on Saturday afternoon. Among the topics of conversation was the various injuries Flames players were dealing with during the post-season.

Treliving noted that only Chris Tanev (labrum injury related to his dislocated shoulder) will require surgery, but the Flames had several less major ailments they were dealing with.

Off the top of Treliving’s head:

Zadorov’s rib injury was from crashing into the post in Game 7 against Dallas. Tkachuk’s injury was from his skirmishes in the Dallas series – when asked if it was from a fight, Treliving replied “he banged it up.”

Treliving acknowledged that the Flames missed Tanev’s presence early in the Edmonton series, but was also very clear about player injuries or absences not being an excuse (noting that’s why clubs try to develop internal depth).

“That’s playoff hockey,” said Treliving. “You’re gonna miss people and it can’t be an excuse.”

Treliving also shared that Sean Monahan’s roughly five or six weeks ahead of schedule in his recovery, compared to having the same surgery on his other hip a year ago. He’s currently in Calgary working on is rehabilitation with the Flames’ staff. He’s expected to begin skating in the next few weeks.
