The Calgary Wranglers’ second game of their three game California road trip comes after a 1-0 loss on Saturday against the Bakersfield Condors. They play a back to back with game two being a match up against the San Diego Gulls. Both of the Wranglers’ weekend opponents played on Friday and the Gulls won 7-4. Calgary will for sure need to get scoring going in this game to pick up some points in this road stretch.

Notes and expectations
Arsenii Sergeev started Saturday’s game so it’s likely that Ivan Prosvetov will get the start for this game on the back end of the back to back. The Wranglers will be without Martin Frk for this game as his wife is expecting their second child imminently. He did not travel with the team for Saturday’s game against the Gulls. The Wranglers are already without Rory Kerins and now Frk for the interim are going to be looking to their depth to get some scoring going without a couple of their top producers.
The biggest thing the Wranglers need to clean up this week is their special teams. They had plenty of opportunities on Saturday to get at least a goal to force overtime against Bakersfield. Seven chances to be exact. They also had a full five-on-three in the first period that sticks out as a huge missed opportunity in their previous game.
As far as the penalty kill goes, this is another part of their game that needs some work. In their 8-3 loss on Thursday against the Henderson Silver Knights, five of those goals were on the penalty kill and they only killed off two of the seven penalties in that game. In Tuesday’s game, Calgary also gave up two power play goals in the four chances Henderson had. Calgary’s penalty kill and power play each rank 30th in the league with their PK sitting at 75.7% and their power play sitting at 13.9%.
The wins may have been few and far between as of late, but there are still things in Calgary’s game they can benefit from working on. This game gets going at 6:00 p.m. MT and streaming options are available for a fee on Flo Hockey. FlamesNation contributors Ryan Pike and I will have updates on X (formerly Twitter).
