Mark Jankowski is officially back in the NHL, and it’s well-deserved. Meanwhile, his linemate, Andrew Mangiapane, is one of the top scorers in the AHL. There’s a fair bit to get excited about.
In case you missed it
- Here’s last week’s update.
- Dillon Dube and Matthew Phillips were named to team WHL for the CHL-Russia series.
- Stockton’s Finest gives a brief overview of Stockton’s history and future as a hockey city.
- And his recap of the Stockton-San Diego weekend series, including a Q&A with Ryan Huska (plus bonus commentary, which gave me a chuckle).
Rasmus Andersson – D, Stockton Heat, AHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Andersson added two assists at 5v5 play. He’s knocking on the door, as are a bunch of Flames defenders.
Austin Carroll – RW, Stockton Heat

Carroll still hasn’t played. I have no clue what the plan is for him. Stockton regularly ices Luke Gazdic, by the way.
Dillon Dube – C/LW, Kelowna Rockets, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 10 | 4 | 8 | 12 | 5 | 9 | 4 | 28.54 |
Change from last week | 3 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | -8.83 |
Dube has slowed down in recent weeks, only scoring one goal in three outings this past week.
Zach Fischer – RW, Spokane Chiefs, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 5 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 9.51 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1.58 |
Last week’s drama that saw Fischer unemployed is over, as he was sent to the Spokane Chiefs. He’s settling in nicely, having collected a primary assist in two games this weekend.
Stats are total.
Spencer Foo – RW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Foo was trying really hard to get the monkey off of his back, shooting six times in a 5-2 loss to San Jose. He finally got that first pro goal (and assist) in the next game:

Adam Fox – D, Harvard Crimson, ECAC

Only five days until Fox’s season begins, for real. He had an assist in Harvard’s 7-2 exhibition win over the USA Under-18 Team.
Josh Healey – D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Healey is playing rotation duty with Ollas Mattsson, getting two games in and then swapping out for AOM for a game.
Mark Jankowski – C, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 6 | 5 | 3 | 8 | 5 | 6 | 4 | 51.39 |
Change from last week | 3 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 2 | -12.84 |
Jankowski, if you haven’t heard already, is off to the NHL while Jaromir Jagr sits out for a week or so. That’s a pretty good three game span to make an impression, maybe a permanent one.
D’Artagnan Joly – RW, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, QMJHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 4 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 10.25 |
Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 10.25 |
After returning from injury, Joly is finding his groove again. He picked up two assists in three games this weekend.
Pavel Karnaukhov – LW/C, CSKA Moscow, KHL/Zvezda, VHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Didn’t play last week.
Morgan Klimchuk – LW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 6 | 2 | 1 | 3 | 2 | 3 | 2 | 19.27 |
Change from last week | 3 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 6.52 |
Klimchuk scored two goals this weekend. His start has not been as hot as it was last season, but he could slowly be shaping back into form.
Oliver Kylington – D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 6 | 1 | 4 | 5 | 5 | 3 | 3 | 32.17 |
Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 1 | -6.42 |
Kylington continues his strong play, adding two more 5v5 assists this past week. You have to feel his arrival to the NHL is sooner rather than later.
Linus Lindstrom – C/LW, Skelleftea AIK, SHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 11 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 4.32 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.96 |
Linus Lindstrom played two games for Skelleftea AIK last week.
Ryan Lomberg – LW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 6 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 6.42 |
Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -6.42 |
Lomberg was pretty quiet this week.
Andrew Mangiapane – LW/C, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 6 | 3 | 7 | 10 | 7 | 6 | 5 | 64.23 |
Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 5 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 3 | 0 |
Mangiapane had himself a monster week, racking up five assists and sitting just a point out of the lead for AHL scoring. The real interesting thing will be seeing how he adapts to life without Jankowski, as that line (with Garnet Hathaway) was the best in the AHL. Marek Hrivik will step up to that 1C, so it’s not a steep drop off.
Mitchell Mattson – C/LW, Sioux Falls Stampede, USHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 7 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 3.28 |
Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 3.28 |
Mattson finally cracked the scoresheet in the USHL. He hasn’t started hot, but he that was similar to last season. He’ll get going again, but it really depends if he can beat previous highs or just top out around 30 points.
Adam Ollas Mattsson – D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |

AOM only saw one game this past weekend. Nothing much happened.
Matthew Phillips – C/RW, Victoria Royals, WHL

We are not worthy.

Emile Poirier – LW/RW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 6 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 12.85 |
Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Still playing on the fourth line for some reason, Poirier picked up an assist this past weekend.
Brett Pollock – LW/C, Stockton Heat, AHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Pollock actually saw game action for the first time this season! He played a fourth line role and didn’t really get on the scoresheet.
Daniel Pribyl – RW/C, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Still injured.
Rushan Rafikov – D, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, KHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 24 | 1 | 5 | 6 | 6 | 3 | 3 | 15.17 |
Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -2.17 |
Rushan Rafikov played three games last week.
Adam Ruzicka – C/LW, Sarnia Sting, OHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 13 | 10 | 10 | 20 | 9 | 15 | 5 | 37.85 |
Change from last week | 3 | 2 | 3 | 5 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 0.95 |
Ruzicka, a fourth round draft pick, leads the OHL in shots on goal and powerplay goals, and is currently third in points and goals. The kid might be legit.
Hunter Shinkaruk – F, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 6 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 12.85 |
Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Shinkaruk picked up another assist this weekend.
Hunter Smith – RW, Kansas City Mavericks, ECHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Smith was reassigned to the KC Mavericks, which more or less spells doom for him. With two other Flames prospects still waiting for a chance in Stockton (Carroll, Pollock), being deemed the one with the smallest chance of taking a spot has to sting.
Filip Sveningsson – LW, HV71, Superelit/SHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
SHL current | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Superelit current | 12 | 7 | 7 | 14 | 8 | 11 | 5 | 19.13 |
Change from last week | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Sveningsson appears to be sticking around in the SHL for good. He’s been the “extra skater” in both HV71 games, but apparently that counts as a GP in the SHL. Whatever, it’s pretty good that he’s already climbed the ladder to this point early in the season.
Eetu Tuulola – RW, HPK, SM-Liiga
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 13 | 2 | 0 | 4 | 3 | 4 | 3 | 10.85 |
Change from last week | 3 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 3.8 |
Tuulola only appears to like scoring goals in pairs every six or so games. He’s been silent except for two goal outbursts for HPK. He also appears to be getting more ice time, playing more than 20 minutes in his most recent game.
Juuso Valimaki – D, Tri-City Americans, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 7 | 2 | 5 | 7 | 3 | 5 | 2 | 23.78 |
Change from last week | 3 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Valimaki has recovered from the flu, and kept up with his PPG point in Tri City. He’s also averaging four shots a game, for what it’s worth.
Tyler Wotherspoon – D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 6 | 1 | 2 | 5 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 32.17 |
Change from last week | 3 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 0 | 3 | 1 | 6.48 |
Wotherspoon had himself a week, scoring a goal and adding two assists while also keeping steady defensively. Has he done enough to earn a callup?
Jon Gillies – G, Stockton Heat
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Current | 4 | 118.97 | 0.912 | 128 |
Change from last week | 2 | 119.10 | 0.002 | 60 |
Gillies stepped in and got two wins for Stockton, stopping 26/29 and 29/31 against San Jose, a .917 SV%.
Mason McDonald – G, Kansas City Mavericks, ECHL
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Current | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Change from last week | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Hasn’t played yet, has the flu.
Tyler Parsons – G, Kansas City Mavericks
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Current | 3 | 180 | 0.889 | 117 |
Change from last week | 2 | 120 | -0.044 | 75 |
A ripple effect from McDonald’s flu is that Tyler Parsons had to be left in for all eight goals (on 30 shots) in an 8-2 shellacking against the Fort Wayne Komets. He redeemed himself the next night, stopping 43/45 (0.956 SV%) again against the Komets.
Tyler Parsons of @kc_mavericks did have this nifty save but Komets are up 3-0. #sctop10 @ESPNAssignDesk pic.twitter.com/zDE8bz5hd5

David Rittich – G, Stockton Heat
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Current | 2 | 60 | 0.914 | 58 |
Change from last week | 1 | 60 | -0.086 | 22 |
People were very excited after Rittich began the season with a shutout. Then he allowed five goals on 22 shots. Such is goaltending.
Nick Schneider – G, Calgary Hitmen, WHL
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Current | 11 | 646 | 0.903 | 329 |
Change from last week | 2 | 125 | +0.005 | 65 |
Schneider has slowly been better and better with every appearance between the pipes. Although inconsistency has plagued him throughout his career, perhaps he’s finally getting his game completely together.
