The third of four meetings of the Battle of Alberta takes place tonight as the Calgary Flames travel to Edmonton with a date with the Oilers. The Flames have unfortunately dropped the first two meetings against Edmonton this season, but Dan Vladar and the Flames look to change that tonight.

The Calgary Flames’ Dan Vladar (7-7-2) vs. The Edmonton Oilers’ Stuart Skinner (25-13-2).
Mikael Backlund over 2.5 shots (-118)
Mikael Backlund covered this line in the first period last game, so let’s go right back to him.
The Flames Captain has covered in three of his last four games, averaging 3.0 shots on 6.0 shot attempts per game. On the road this season, Backlund clears at a 52% clip, averaging 2.8 shots on 5.0 shot attempts. He hasn’t cleared in three straight road games but has only gone this long without his shots once this season.
The Oilers are playing very disciplined as of late, only allowing 2.8 powerplay opportunities against per game. Backlund is second on the Flames in 5-on-5 shots on goal this season.

McDavid has covered this line in eight of his last nine home games, averaging 5.2 shots on 7.9 shot attempts per game. When looking at his home splits on the season, McDavid is clearing at a 60% clip, averaging 4.2 shots on 6.7 shot attempts.
In Rogers Place against the Flames, McDavid has cleared in three of his last six games, averaging 3.7 shots on 5.2 shot attempts. The Flames allow 10.2 shots to centres over their last 10 games.
The Flames allow the majority of their shots in front of the net — this just so happens to be exact area that McDavid gets a lot of his shots.
