The Calgary Flames have made their tenth (and final) pick of the 2024 NHL Draft. At 177th overall, the Flames have selected defenceman Eric Jamieson of the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League.
A Calgary product, Jamieson came up through the Blackfoot minor hockey association. He’s a July 2005 birthday (so he’s in his second year of eligibility), and he’s a left shot defender listed at 6’3″ and 203 pounds. A product of the Edge School, the 2023-24 campaign was his second full WHL season. He wore a letter as an alternate captain for the ‘Tips, and he posted 10 goals and 32 points – just shy of triple his rookie season total of 13 from the prior year.
Jamieson was the 84th-ranked North American skater by the NHL’s Central Scouting Service in their final rankings. Over at Elite Prospects, they didn’t have Jamieson ranked in their draft guide, but they noted the following about his game: “About as physical as prospects get and has some defensive details, but the puck game must improve.”
He’s big. He’s physical. He defends well. Maybe his offensive game grows over time. As with Hunter Laing, this is a late-round flier on a player that could have some potential to blossom if given some opportunity to do so.
