The Calgary Flames have made their eighth pick of the 2024 NHL Draft. At 150th overall, the Flames have selected forward Luke Misa from the Ontario Hockey League’s Mississauga Steelheads.
A product of Oakville, Ontario, Misa is a left shot forward listed at 5’10” and 165 pounds. His younger brother is Michael Misa, who entered the OHL in 2022 as a 15-year-old after being granted exceptional status. Luke has played three seasons in the OHL, and he enjoyed an offensive breakthrough in 2023-24: he posted 26 goals and 81 points over 66 games. In his previous OHL seasons, he had 26 points (in 2021-22) and 43 points (in 2022-23).
Here’s what Daily Faceoff’s Steven Ellis wrote about Misa as part of his final rankings – he had Misa ranked 65th:
Misa has speed that kills and creates his own breakaways as often as anyone. When he uses his speed to create chances, he’s so difficult to beat – but it’s about consistently using that to his advantage. He’s a breakaway machine – got at least one in all of my live viewings this year. From an overall standpoint, Misa has performed much better than I expected this year after watching him closely over the past few years. I expect him to transform into a Ryan McLeod-style player.
Misa was ranked 76th among North American skaters by the NHL’s Central Scouting Service in their final rankings. Our pals at Elite Prospects had him listed at 58th overall in their draft guide.
Misa is not a big dude. But y’know what he can do? He can use his speed to create scoring chances, something he did in abundance for the Steelheads over the past few seasons – especially this season. He’s a bit of a gamble due to his size, but he’s one that seems worth making for the Flames at this point in the draft.
