Flames weekly prospect update: The finale

Time flies when you’re having fun.
Last week, fancy table, and prospect stuff you may have missed:

Forwards
- Mark Jankowski had another two points in two games this week, which is pretty good. He finished first in rookie goalscoring.
- Andrew Mangiapane hit 20 goals with a tally in the last game of the season. It’s been a very impressive campaign for the 20-year-old, who finished tied for seventh in rookie goalscoring.
- Ryan Lomberg finished his season in style, adding three points this week.
- Small sensation Matthew Phillips finally made his AHL debut, notching an assist (primary, of course) on the tying goal in a thrilling 6-5 loss. Here’s what play-by-play man and friend of the blog Brandon Kisker had to say about him:
He was really impressive actually. He was engaged and smart. Had two good chances to score (should’ve scored one too but it was an amazing save by Langhamer) and I knew from the way he started the game he was going to get on the board and he did.
- But could he make the playoff roster?
Matthew could sneak into the lineup but I don’t think he’ll start there. San Jose has some tough players that would make it a tough matchup for Phillips, specifically Zack Stortini, who’s been a bit of a lightning rod of controversy since his kneeing major that knocked Oliver Kylington out of the lineup for a pair of games. So I think players like Jamie Devane, Brandon Bollig and Mike Angelidis will have a lot of important shifts early in the series which leads me to believe that Matthew starts as an observer. However, if the Heat need an offensive boost, someone who can play creatively and someone they can use on the power play, it wouldn’t shock me for him to draw in to the lineup. No reason though to rock the boat of a team that went 15-4-4 to end the season.
Defenders
- Oliver Kylington came back from said injury to record three points in two games this week. He is awesome.
- Kenney Morrison also came back and added two points in that 6-5 game.
- Josh Healey and Adam Ollas Mattsson got final hurrahs, but scored zero points this week.
Goalies
- With Jon Gillies being absent, Stockton recalled Mason McDonald. He was lit up to the tune of six goals, and an .818 SV%. Not great.

- Dube and the Rockets are on break until Friday, when they’ll face the Seattle Thunderbirds in the semifinals. Dube is currently second on his team in scoring.
- Said Thunderbirds eliminated golden boy Eetu Tuulola and the Everett Silvertips. Tuulola, goal lover, finished first on the Tips in that category.
- Parsons and the London Knights are duking it out with the Erie Otters. Game seven is tonight, in case you’re interested.
- The ECHL boys are currently down 2-0 to the Manchester Monarchs. Flames prospects are leading the way in scoring though.
- Stockton’s playoffs don’t start until Friday. They’ll face the San Jose Barracuda, a team they went 5-5-2 against in the regular season. Should be an interesting one.
