FlamesNation Prospect Update: All-Stars and assists
To continue the alliterative trend, it’s awesomeness.
In case you missed it
- Here’s the last update.
- The call-up game was all over the place this past week, with Ryan Lomberg coming up to play his first NHL game, then going back down with Andrew Mangiapane and Marek Hrivik, and then coming back up again with Mangiapane.
Rasmus Andersson – D, Stockton Heat, AHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 36 | 4 | 21 | 25 | 15 | 13 | 9 | 26.76 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 0.69 |
Rasmus picked up two assists in two games this weekend, but that’s not even the main story. Andersson was at the AHL All-Star game, where he added some content to his highlight tape. Let’s start with the skills competition, so here’s a sweet shootout move:
And here’s him obliterating a hockey puck:
For the actual game itself, he recorded two goals and three assists:
The AHL All-Star Game is near the bottom of the importance scale, but it’s pretty promising to see a defender like Ras do what he does.
(Unrelated to the ASG, but here’s him chucking knuckles for the first time in his professional career. Kid can do everything!)
Austin Carroll – RW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 19 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 4.06 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.47 |
Just two games played for Carroll this week.
Dillon Dube – C/LW, Kelowna Rockets, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 31 | 21 | 25 | 46 | 24 | 33 | 16 | 35.29 |
Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | -0.38 |
Dube only played in one of Kelowna’s three games this weekend for unexplained reasons (borderline sketchy), though he did record one assist and nine shots (!) in his one appearance.
Zach Fischer – RW, Spokane Chiefs, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 42 | 22 | 14 | 36 | 25 | 25 | 20 | 20.38 |
Change from last week | 4 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | -0.9 |
Fischer only scored two goals in four games this week, a slow down given his body of work over the whole season, but one of those goals was pretty clever:

Spencer Foo – RW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 39 | 12 | 12 | 24 | 12 | 21 | 10 | 23.72 |
Change from last week | 2 | 3 | 2 | 5 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 3.98 |
I wrote similar words last week, but Foo has really begun to pick up the slack for the forward-depleted Heat. He picked up five points in two games this weekend, including a shorthanded goal. Here’s the other two goals:
Adam Fox – D, Harvard Crimson, ECAC
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 17 | 0 | 12 | 12 | 5 | 5 | 1 | 13.31 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -1.78 |
Harvard didn’t score a single goal this weekend, so it makes sense why Fox has no points. His struggles with Harvard this year mean that he’ll need 28 points to match his last season totals. He only has eight games left in the regular season before the ECAC hockey tournament, which Harvard probably won’t go far in, so he might have 10 more games left this season.
Glenn Gawdin – C/RW, Swift Current Broncos, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 50 | 40 | 50 | 90 | 47 | 67 | 34 | 42.80 |
Change from last week | 3 | 3 | 1 | 4 | 1 | 3 | 1 | -0.71 |
Gawdin has a pretty round and appeasing statline right now. Four points in three games for him this week.
Josh Healey – D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 29 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1.33 |
Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.05 |
Just one game for Healey this past week.
D’Artagnan Joly – RW, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, QMJHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 39 | 16 | 31 | 47 | 24 | 38 | 20 | 24.71 |
Change from last week | 2 | 1 | 6 | 7 | 3 | 5 | 1 | 0.41 |
Perhaps you’ve heard already, but Joly tied a Baie-Comeau team record with a six-assist game against Charlottestown. It’s certainly amplifying his performances, but Joly has been sneaky good all year. Hopefully this is a dam-burst moment for him.
Pavel Karnaukhov – LW/C, CSKA Moscow, KHL/Zvezda, VHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
KHL current | 11 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 11.03 |
Change from last week | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
VHL current | 33 | 12 | 18 | 30 | 18 | 24 | 14 | 29.21 |
Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.88 |
One game, no points for Karnaukhov in VHL play this week.
Morgan Klimchuk – LW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 40 | 12 | 13 | 25 | 15 | 19 | 12 | 24.09 |
Change from last week | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | -0.25 |
Just a goal for Klimchuk this week.
Oliver Kylington – D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 37 | 2 | 20 | 22 | 14 | 15 | 11 | 22.92 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 3 | 3 | 2 | 3 | 2 | 2 |
Three assists for Kylington this week. He’s been a bit overshadowed by fellow Swede Andersson, but don’t forget about Oliver. He is currently doing better than Rasmus in the categories of points per game, primary points per game, estimated 5v5 points/60, and estimated 5v5 primary points/60.
Linus Lindstrom – C/LW, Skelleftea AIK, SHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 29 | 2 | 1 | 3 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 4.92 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.36 |
After missing two games last week, Lindstrom returned to the Skelleftea lineup for two games. Didn’t do much.
Ryan Lomberg – LW, Stockton Heat- X
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 37 | 5 | 9 | 14 | 12 | 8 | 6 | 14.57 |
Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.41 |
Lomberg appears to have been rewarded for consistent strong play at the AHL, and will remain in the NHL while there’s a spot open. Getting Zack Kassian tossed in your first NHL game is probably strong resume material.
Andrew Mangiapane – LW/C, Stockton Heat- X
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 31 | 16 | 19 | 35 | 20 | 26 | 16 | 43.51 |
Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -1.45 |
Mangiapane is also sticking around in the NHL for the time being. He should be getting a few more minutes than he already gets, but I wouldn’t considered him graduated just yet. Depending on when Kris Versteeg comes back, Mangiapane could finish the season in the AHL.
Mitchell Mattson – C/LW, Sioux Falls Stampede, USHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 36 | 8 | 10 | 18 | 15 | 16 | 13 | 11.48 |
Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -1.04 |
No points for Mattson this week.
Adam Ollas Mattsson – D, Stockton Heat

Didn’t play. Apparently has a shoulder injury, according to Stockton’s Finest.
Matthew Phillips – C/RW, Victoria Royals, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 51 | 35 | 45 | 80 | 32 | 59 | 25 | 37.30 |
Change from last week | 3 | 3 | 2 | 5 | 1 | 5 | 1 | 0.14 |
Two more two-point games from Phillips this week? Yawn.
Emile Poirier – LW/RW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 39 | 3 | 13 | 16 | 9 | 14 | 8 | 15.81 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0.19 |
Poirier broke a long scoring drought, picking up an assist this weekend.
Brett Pollock – LW/C, Stockton Heat, AHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 18 | 4 | 2 | 6 | 3 | 4 | 1 | 12.85 |
Change from last week | 2 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 8.03 |
Now this is something to look at. Pollock burned his former parent club (Dallas) by scoring four goals on their AHL team, including a hat trick. Pollock has had a rough go of things professionally, but if this is the start of something good, who’s going to complain?
Daniel Pribyl – RW/C, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Still injured.
Rushan Rafikov – D, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, KHL

Ditto.
Adam Ruzicka – C/LW, Sarnia Sting, OHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 45 | 30 | 26 | 56 | 26 | 47 | 22 | 30.61 |
Change from last week | 3 | 4 | 2 | 6 | 3 | 6 | 3 | 1.32 |
Ruzicka’s recovered from a nosedive to become one of the Sting’s better players in recent weeks. His NHLe has bounced back into the 30s, which is generally a promising sign for prospects. He also crossed the 20 even strength goals plateau this week, and is sixth in that category across the whole OHL (three goals out of first, however).
Hunter Shinkaruk – F, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 38 | 12 | 8 | 20 | 13 | 16 | 12 | 20.28 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1.01 |
Shinkaruk had two assists this week, and has generally been a quiet yet consistent producer for the Heat. Very curious to see where he is at the end of the season.
Hunter Smith – RW, Kansas City Mavericks, ECHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Out, injured.
Filip Sveningsson – LW, HV71, Superelit/SHL

Change from last week | 4 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | -1.84 |
Two goals for Sveningsson in Superelit top 10 play:
Eetu Tuulola – RW, HPK, SM-Liiga
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 37 | 11 | 8 | 19 | 6 | 13 | 5 | 18.11 |
Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0.48 |
Eetu has come back from the WJC break firing, boosting his NHLe by three points since returning:
Juuso Valimaki – D, Tri-City Americans, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 19 | 5 | 15 | 20 | 9 | 14 | 6 | 25.10 |

Should return this week from injury.
Tyler Wotherspoon – D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 40 | 4 | 22 | 26 | 13 | 14 | 9 | 25.05 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 3 | 3 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1.72 |
Three assists in two games this week. Wotherspoon is playing his best pro hockey ever. Maybe he gets a shot somewhere.
Jon Gillies – G, Stockton Heat
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Current | 28 | 1658.85 | 0.917 | 858 |
Change from last week | 2 | 118.90 | -0.003 | 44 |
Gillies had a rough week, allowing two goals on 22 shots (0.909 SV%) in game one against the Texas Stars and allowing four on 22 (0.818) in game two. Being the only goalie in town probably doesn’t help, as he’s started 10 of the last 12 games. Since Eddie Lack was traded, the Heat seem to not want to use anyone besides Gillies, which is a minor problem for fatigue and such, given the league usually schedules a lot of back-to-backs. Nothing wrong with getting a starter’s workload, but this perhaps explains some of his recent struggles.
Mason McDonald – G, Kansas City Mavericks/Stockton Heat
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Current | 21 | 1189 | 0.892 | 581 |
Change from last week | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
McDonald is currently in Stockton providing back-up for Gillies. He’s likely not going to be starting anytime soon.
Tyler Parsons – G, Stockton Heat/Kansas City Mavericks
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
ECHL Current | 21 | 1153 | 0.906 | 631 |
Change from last week | 2 | 119 | -0.001 | 64 |
AHL Current | 2 | 77.68 | 0.844 | 45 |
Change from last week | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Parsons is back in KC, mostly for playing time purposes. He wasn’t getting any ice time in Stockton, and McDonald lost the starting job to another ECHL goalie, so it makes sense to at least get one of the Flames’ prospect goalies ice time. Parsons stopped 24 of 29 (0.828 SV%) in his return, but put up a much better 34/35 (0.971 SV%) in his next game.
Nick Schneider – G, Calgary Hitmen, WHL
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Current | 44 | 2467 | 0.882 | 1308 |
Change from last week | 2 | 76 | -0.003 | 41 |
Had a rough series against Victoria, getting pulled just over a period into the second game after allowing four goals on 19 shots.
