FlamesNation Prospect Update: Shattering personal bests

The Flames seem to have recently developed an eye for picking up prospects who tend to see major growth from year to year. Seems like a good plan to me.

In case you missed it

Rasmus Andersson – D, Stockton Heat, AHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current34419231411826.07
Change from last week3011100-1.28
Just an assist for Andersson this week.

Austin Carroll – RW, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current172022224.53
Change from last week2000000-0.63
Just two games played for Carroll this week.

Dillon Dube – C/LW, Kelowna Rockets, WHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current3021244520281434.35
Change from last week33360000
Dube finally saw action again after the World Juniors and a team-sanctioned vacation (mostly due to the flu). He came back to score two points per game, and is now 10 points away from topping his last year’s total. Here’s a cool video from Global Kelowna about him.

Zach Fischer – RW, Spokane Chiefs, WHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current3820143423231821.28
Change from last week2101111-0.52
An unusually quiet week for Fischer, who only had one goal but only played two games.

Spencer Foo – RW, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current37910191017919.79
Change from last week312333101.66
With everyone else gone, Foo is starting to become the offensive outlet for the Heat. He lived up to that role this week, potting three points, all 5v5, all primary.

Adam Fox – D, Harvard Crimson, ECAC

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current150121255115.09
Change from last week20221100.58
There appears to be some odd fear that Fox won’t sign in Calgary, for some reason. Here’s our take:

Glenn Gawdin – C/RW, Swift Current Broncos, WHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current4737498646643343.51
Change from last week4235232-1.28
Gawdin’s slowdown over the past month has been pretty apparent. The guy has slipped four NHLe points (?) over the past month. As Swift Current has been stocking up, they’ve also begun to rely on him less. Not great indicators, but perhaps he can fight back and earn that top billing again.

Josh Healey – D, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current280110101.38
Change from last week2000000-0.1
Healey is back in rotation duty again, after a solid stretch of regular hockey. Three games played out of the last six possible.

D’Artagnan Joly – RW, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, QMJHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current3715254021331922.16
Change from last week414523310.41
His stats don’t look that great, but Joly is quietly having a great season for Baie-Comeau. He’s crept up to second in team scoring with seven fewer games played than first or third place. Among 2017 draft eligibles, he ranks fifth in the whole QMJHL in points per game and second in primary points per game. He’s tied for 13th among all QMJHLers in primary points per game. He is also just eight points away from equaling his 2016-17 effort. Last year, he did that in 66 games. Don’t sleep on this kid.

Pavel Karnaukhov – LW/C, CSKA Moscow, KHL/Zvezda, VHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
KHL current1102221111.03
Change from last week00000000
VHL current3212183018241429.21
Change from last week3101111-1.95
Karnaukhov has found a permanent residence in the VHL, it appears. Slowing down in that league will do that to you. It’s the first time all season his NHLe has dropped under 30 in that league.

Morgan Klimchuk – LW, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current3811132414181124.34
Change from last week3000000-2.8
Klimchuk has slowed down in recent weeks. No points this week.

Oliver Kylington – D, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current35217191212920.92
Change from last week3011111-0.76
Just one assist this week from Kylington.

Linus Lindstrom – C/LW, Skelleftea AIK, SHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current272133225.28
Change from last week00000000
Lindstrom sat out both of Skelleftea’s games this week, reason unknown.

Ryan Lomberg – LW, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current365914128614.98
Change from last week31232102.15
Lomberg has been hot recently, picking up the slack for a lot of the recent offensive slowdown in Stockton.

Andrew Mangiapane – LW/C, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current3016193520261644.96
Change from last week12021211.11
Mangiapane went down and immediately scored twice for Stockton. He hasn’t made much of an NHL impact yet, but it’s pretty safe to say that he is too good for the AHL.

Mitchell Mattson – C/LW, Sioux Falls Stampede, USHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current338101815161312.52
Change from last week2000000-0.81
No points for Mattson this week.

Adam Ollas Mattsson – D, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date140000000
Change from last week00000000
Didn’t play.

Matthew Phillips – C/RW, Victoria Royals, WHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current4832437531542437.16
Change from last week32571611.23
Phillips continues his impressive post-holiday play, scoring seven points this week. He also moved back into the lead for shorthanded WHL scoring. The next closest Royal is 19 points behind him. He’s also about to pass his rookie year totals, when he scored 76 points in 72 games. Also just 15 points away from passing last year’s total, which he could feasibly do in the next 10 games. He’s on pace for 112 points this year, which is incredibly good.

Emile Poirier – LW/RW, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current3731215914815.62
Change from last week3000000-1.38
Really wish Poirier would be given better billing than the third line. You have to start wondering whether or not he’s destined for greater things than the AHL.

Brett Pollock – LW/C, Stockton Heat, AHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current160221004.82
Change from last week10111002.25
Recorded his second point of the season.

Daniel Pribyl – RW/C, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current00000000
Still injured.

Rushan Rafikov – D, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, KHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current3611011107618.54
Change from last week00000000
Didn’t play this week. Injured.

Adam Ruzicka – C/LW, Sarnia Sting, OHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date4226245023411929.29
Change from last week36287872.80
Wow. Ruzicka has had a hard few weeks (months really: his struggles date back to December), but he exploded this week with eight points, all primary, seven of them coming at 5v5. That shatters his records from last year. This included a natural hat trick against Flint:

Hunter Shinkaruk – F, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date361261812151119.27
Change from last week3101111-0.58
Just a goal this week for Shinkaruk.

Hunter Smith – RW, Kansas City Mavericks, ECHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date35981713171311.15
Change from last week00000000
Hunter Smith is out with a hand injury.

Filip Sveningsson – LW, HV71, Superelit/SHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
SHL current110000000
Change from last week00000000
Superelit current2210172716201220.13
Change from last week2000000-2.01
A rare point-less week for Sveningsson, but he did get a 20 minute misconduct (they don’t joke in Sweden) for a check to the back.

Eetu Tuulola – RW, HPK, SM-Liiga

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current3411617613517.63
Change from last week32241313.98
A big week for Tuulola, who scored four points in three games. He’s struggled to find the net in Liiga play, but hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

Juuso Valimaki – D, Tri-City Americans, WHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current1951520914625.10
Change from last week00000000
Injured, upper body, week-to-week. In Calgary rehabbing.

Tyler Wotherspoon – D, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current38419231313923.32
Change from last week3011100-0.9
One assist for Wotherspoon.

Jon Gillies – G, Stockton Heat

Current261540.950.920814
Change from last week6160.13-0.001102
All over the place this week. Followed a shutout last week with another 32-save shutout, but then had a rough outing where he saw 34 shots on net (allowed five goals, 0.853 SV%) in just over two periods of hockey against Ontario. He then followed it up with a 32/36 performance the next day. It certainly doesn’t help that Tyler Parsons isn’t quite up to AHL muster yet, but just a rough week overall.
Despite this, he ranks seventh for goalies who have played 20 games or more in SV%. He also leads the league in shutouts.

Mason McDonald – G, Kansas City Mavericks

GPTOISV%SA
Current2111890.892581
Change from last week1600.00119
Allowed two goals on 19 shots, and only appeared in one of the three Maverick games this week. It’s a minor concern, but he’s currently lost the starting job to Chris Nell, a goalie two years older who was demoted by the Rangers to the Mavericks. He’s been a .885 goalie so far this year, but is currently rocking a .939 with the Mavericks. Let’s see if that holds.

Tyler Parsons – G, Stockton Heat

GPTOISV%SA
ECHL Current1910340.907567
Change from last week
AHL Current277.680.84445
Change from last week117.730.0195
There’s no timetable for Parsons to get some start time in the AHL, which is fine because rushing him isn’t necessary (especially given some of the injuries he’s had to deal with this season). He saw a bit of action after Gillies was mercifully pulled. Only faced five shots.

Nick Schneider – G, Calgary Hitmen, WHL

GPTOISV%SA
Current4223810.8851267
Change from last week3182089
Schneider’s weeks are almost predictable. One amazing game (0.944 against Kamloops), one awful one (0.815, against Saskatoon), and one par-for-the-course one (0.885, against Prince Albert).
