Four members of the Calgary Flames received votes for the 2022 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, awarded to the National Hockey League player “adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.”
Winnipeg Jets forward @Kyle Connor won the award, with defencemen @Jaccob Slavin (Carolina Hurricanes) and @Jared Spurgeon (Minnesota Wild) being named finalists. The Lady Byng Trophy is voted on at the end of each regular season by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.
Flames leading scorer and 2017 Lady Byng winner @Johnny Gaudreau finished ninth in voting for the award. Gaudreau, 28, scored 115 points (40 goals, 75 assists) and recorded just 26 penalty minutes in 82 games with the Flames in the 2021–22 regular season; he received four out of 195 first-place votes for the award.
Gaudreau has now received Lady Byng votes in all eight of his full NHL seasons. Here’s the full voting breakdown, courtesy TSN’s Chris Johnston:
Flames forward @Elias Lindholm finished 36th in voting with two third-place votes and one fifth-place vote. Lindholm, 27, finished the 2021–22 regular season with 82 points (42 goals, 40 assists) and 22 penalty minutes in 82 games.
After breaking out with the Flames in 2021–22, defenceman @Oliver Kylington finished in a tie with countryman @Anton Stralman (Arizona Coyotes) for 55th in voting. Both Kylington and Stralman received one fourth-place vote and one fifth-place vote; Kylington, 25, recorded 31 points (nine goals, 22 assists) and 14 penalty minutes in 73 games with the 2021–22 Flames.
@Calle Jarnkrok, who split 2021–22 between the Flames and Seattle Kraken, finished in a tie for 66th with one fifth-place vote. Jarnkrok, 30, wound up with 30 points (12 goals, 18 assists) and just six penalty minutes in 66 games during the 2021–22 regular season.
