The Calgary Flames are reportedly working on a deal to sign Nazem Kadri, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman and ESPN’s Kevin Weekes.
Kadri, 31, scored 28 goals and 87 points in 71 games with the Colorado Avalanche during the 2021–22 regular season. He added seven goals and 15 points in 16 playoff games to help the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup.
Weekes added that the Flames are working on a deal to move Sean Monahan to facilitate the Kadri signing.
Friedman subsequently reported Monahan will be traded to the Montreal Canadiens, although the terms of that deal have not yet been reported.
Monahan, 27, has one year remaining on his contract at a $6.375 million cap hit. The 2013 No. 6 pick has spent his entire career with the Flames and scored eight goals and 23 points in 65 games last season.
According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, Kadri’s new deal will carry a seven-year term.
A seven-year deal for Kadri would extend through the 2028–29 season, during which the London, Ontario product will be 38 years old.
We’ll have more on this story as it continues to develop.
