Playing in his first game since being shifted onto a new line with @Andrew Mangiapane and @Adam Ruzicka, @Tyler Toffoli scored a pair of goals in the second period of Monday’s Battle of Alberta.
Toffoli’s first goal came on the power play and gave the Flames a 1–0 lead over the Edmonton Oilers at the 6:27 mark of the middle frame.
After @Matthew Tkachuk lost the handle while trying a between-the-legs shot, the puck skittered across to a wide-open Toffoli who deposited it over @Mikko Koskinen’s left shoulder.
@Johnny Gaudreau also picked up an assist — his 50th of the season — on Toffoli’s sixth goal as a Flame (and his 15th of 2021–22).
Toffoli doubled the Flames’ lead less than four minutes later, streaking in down the left side after taking a feed from Ruzicka and roofing the puck in the exact same spot as when he scored his first.
Mangiapane recorded the secondary helper on Toffoli’s seventh as a Flame. The 29-year-old winger now has 10 points (seven goals, three assists) in 10 games since being acquired from the Montreal Canadiens on Feb. 14.
The Flames currently lead the Oilers by the same 2–0 score after two periods of play.
