Calgary Flames forward @Sean Monahan scored on the power play to give his team a 1–0 lead early in the second period of Monday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.
Monahan took a pass from @Andrew Mangiapane just inside the Jets’ defensive blue line, skated in on goaltender @Connor Hellebuyck, and fired a perfect wrister into the top-right corner of the net.
@Noah Hanifin picked up the secondary assist on Monahan’s eighth goal of the season, which came at the 1:07 mark of the middle frame.
Monahan’s goal came shortly after he was demoted off the Flames’ top PP unit in favour of new trade acquisition @Tyler Toffoli.
The 27-year-old centre responded by ending his 11-game goalless drought on his very next shift. Monahan now has eight goals and 14 assists in 49 games this season and ranks second on the Flames with 13 power-play points.
Calgary and Winnipeg are currently tied at 1–1 midway through the second period. Jets forward @Dominic Toninato scored his fifth goal of the season at the 7:39 mark of the frame to even the score.
