Ladies and gentlemen, the Stanley Cup will be won by either the Edmonton Oilers or the Florida Panthers.
We’ll look at what exactly went down in the Conference Finals, but here’s a fun fact: The distance between Rogers Place in Edmonton to Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida is the largest distance between any two teams competing in the Stanley Cup Finals.
With that being said, let’s look at how these two teams got to the Stanley Cup Finals!

Edmonton won three straight against Dallas

In the last “What’s Going On In The Playoffs”, the Dallas Stars went up two games to one over the Edmonton Oilers with a 5-3 defeat at Rogers Place.
It looked as if the Stars were going to take control of the series, as Wyatt Johnston and Esa Lindell each scored less than six minutes into Game 4 to give the Stars the lead. However, it all turned upside down for the Texas team, as the Oilers tied it before the end of the period, then added two in the second, before icing it with an empty net goal, winning 5-2.
By no means were the Stars out of the series though, as the *if necessary games returned to Dallas for Game 5. Sadly for Stars fans and Calgary Flames fans, the dormant Oilers’ power play got going with a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins goal in the first period, followed by his second of the game early in the second period. Four minutes later, Philip Broberg scored from the point, giving the Oilers a 3-0 lead and scoring eight straight. The Stars would finally score with just under six minutes left, but the damage was done.
The Oilers returned to Alberta with a chance to win the series and head to the Stanley Cup Finals on home ice. Their power play success continued, with Connor McDavid scoring a fantastic goal early in the first, before Zach Hyman scored late in the first, also on the power play.
This game had the largest shot differential ever for a Conference Finals clinching game, as the Stars threw everything they had at the Oilers, out-shooting the Albertan team 33-10. However, the Stars only got one by Stuart Skinner, losing 2-1 and bowing out in the third round for a second consecutive postseason.

Florida took control of their series against the Rangers

The Florida Panthers won their first game 3-0, the only time a game didn’t finish by one goal. In Games 2 and 3, the New York Rangers were the victor, winning both in overtime, before the Panthers won Game 4 in overtime. That’s where we left off in the latest “What’s Going On In The Playoffs”.
Just like the Oilers, the Panthers won three straight after being down 2-1. Game 4 saw the Rangers score early in the second period, their final lead of the series. However, Gustav Forsling scored six minutes later, tying the game heading into the third period. Midway through, Anton Lundell scored to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead, before Sam Bennett scored the game-winning goal in an empty net. The Rangers made it close with a goal with 50 seconds remaining, but their push fell short.
On the other hand, Game 5 saw the Panthers jump out to a 2-0 lead, before the Rangers’ Artemi Panarin scored a late goal in the third. Their push fell short though, and the Panthers won the series to head to their second consecutive Stanley Cup Final.
Interestingly, every time the Panthers won, so did the Oilers the next day. Either way, the Panthers are Canada’s team!
