The Anaheim Ducks have fallen back down to earth.
After starting the season well, the Ducks have just one win in their last 10 games and sit outside of a playoff spot. The league’s sellers are also starting to emerge, as the Canucks are well out of the race as they’re on a six-game losing streak.
This is What’s Going On In the Pacific Division, the weekly article where we look at how teams from the division fared, as well as setting up the following week. Let’s take a look at the week that was.

Anaheim Ducks

Let’s start with those Ducks. Entering this past week’s slate of games, the Ducks were on a seven-game losing streak. It extended to nine games with a loss to the Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres, but was snapped thanks to a 3-1 victory over the Dallas Stars on Tuesday. Since Dec. 11, the Ducks are 3-11-2, going from tied for first in the Pacific Division to four points outside a post-season spot.
This week, they play a home-and-home against the Los Angeles Kings, playing on the road on Friday and at home on Saturday. They’ll host the New York Rangers on Monday, before hitting the road to play the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday.

Calgary Flames

Last week was a week that’d help the Calgary Flames push for a mushy-middle spot. Embarking on a five-game road trip on Wednesday, they fell 4-1 to the Montréal Canadiens on Wednesday, and then lost by the same score to the Boston Bruins the following night. They then defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, fell 5-3 to the Columbus Blue Jackets, and then beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-1 on Thursday.
Realistically, it was an okay road trip for the Flames, who are now 8-16-2 on the road. Eight of their next nine games are at home, where they are 12-7-2. They host the New York Islanders on Saturday, New Jersey Devils on Monday, and the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.

Edmonton Oilers

Since last week’s edition of What’s Going On In the Pacific Division, the Oilers beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-3, fell 4-3 to the Los Angeles Kings in a shootout, beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1, lost 4-3 to the Nashville Predators in overtime, and were goalie’d in a 1-0 loss to the New York Islanders. Not a great week for a team looking to win their first division title since 1986-97, the longest division title drought in North American sports.
Entering Friday, the Oilers sit four points behind the Vegas Golden Knights with two additional games played. They’ll hit the road for a match-up against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday, before an eight-game home stand. They’ll face the St. Louis Blues on Sunday and the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.

Los Angeles Kings

As it stands, the Los Angeles Kings sit two points out of a playoff spot as they have 49 points (19-16-11 record). It wasn’t a great week for the California-based team, as they fell 5-1 to the Winnipeg Jets, defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in a shootout, lost 3-1 to the Dallas Stars, and 3-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights in overtime.
This week, the Kings play a home-and-home against the Anaheim Ducks, hosting them on Friday and making the short trip to Anaheim on Saturday. The Kings also host the New York Rangers on Tuesday.

San Jose Sharks

Who had the San Jose Sharks sitting in a playoff spot midway through January? They’ve continued to keep the pace, thanks to a 5-4 overtime victory over the Dallas Stars and 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals, although they fell 7-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Sharks are on the road this week, facing the Detroit Red Wings on Friday, the Florida Panthers on Monday, and the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. Eight of their last nine games before the Olympic break are on the road.

Seattle Kraken

The Seattle Kraken had a tough week. They fell 3-2 to the Minnesota Wild in overtime on Jan. 8, lost 3-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, beat the New York Rangers 4-2 on Monday, but then lost 3-2 in overtime to the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday and 4-2 to the Boston Bruins.
Those last four games were on the road, and they have one more game on the road trip, facing the Utah Mammoth on Saturday. After that, the Kraken have a six-game home stand, hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders next week.

Vancouver Canucks

It’s clear that the Vancouver Canucks are going to be toward the bottom of the standings by season’s end. In fact, their 37 points are the fewest in the league, with the next closest team being the Winnipeg Jets with 43 points. This past week, they fell 5-1 to the Detroit Red Wings, 5-0 to the Toronto Maple Leafs, 6-3 to the Montréal Canadiens, 2-1 to the Ottawa Senators, and 4-1 to the Columbus Blue Jackets, all on the road.
Still looking for their first win of 2026, the Canucks return home for an eight-game home stand, hosting the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, the New York Islanders on Monday, and the Washington Capitals on Wednesday.

Vegas Golden Knights

Sitting at the top of the Pacific Division are the Vegas Golden Knights, who have a 23-11-12 record and 58 points. They’re in the midst of a six-game winning streak, defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets, St. Louis Blues, San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, and Toronto Maple Leafs this past week.
Next week will see the 2023 Stanley Cup champions play just two games, hosting the Nashville Predators on Saturday and the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday.
